Welcome to Sortfully

What Sortfully does, the privacy promise, and where to start.

Sortfully keeps your Outlook inbox tidy by filing mail into folders (or coloured categories) based on who sent it — specifically, the organisation behind the sender's email domain. Mail from *@thetimes.co.uk lands in a thetimes folder; mail from *@acme.com lands in acme. You set it up once, and new mail sorts itself from then on.

It runs on Microsoft Graph and works with Outlook and Microsoft 365 — personal mailboxes, business mailboxes, and shared mailboxes.

The promise behind everything

Sortfully never reads the body of your messages or any attachment. It works from routing metadata — who sent a message (the address and domain), when it arrived, and which folder it belongs in. By default it also records the subject line and sender address in your own activity log, so you can see exactly what was filed; you can switch any mailbox to metadata-only at any time, including before you connect it.

This isn't just a policy. Message bodies, previews and attachments are unreadable by design — locked behind a hard-coded allow-list, and a build that fails if any code ever tries to request them.

How it works in one minute

  1. You connect your Outlook mailbox with Sign in with Microsoft.
  2. Sortfully scans your folders and recent senders (metadata only) and proposes a tidy folder layout.
  3. You confirm the plan in a short wizard and switch it on.
  4. From then on, each new message is filed by its sender's organisation — after you've read it, so your phone notifications still work.

Everything is reversible: every filing has an Undo, and disconnecting leaves your mailbox and folders exactly as they are.
